Is there any need for Tanzania to form new regulations and laws to curb piracy in music industry?
"A thief is always looking for an opened opportunity to grab and go, for no thief will attempt to steal from an empty shop or car or any spot he like"
Having said that lets start by seing our journey from period before tecnological advancement to the point where we are right now..
Once upon a time there emerged a new game, style and swagg that swept every growing up youngster in mid of 19th century, this game was called bongo flava the pioneer who crown himself to be our very own Member of Parliament for the constituency of Mbeya city Hon. Joseph Mbilinyi had emphatic ignited the engine of bongo flava during that time he was notoriously known as SUGU
the name he claimed after the hit record single known as Sugu features Stara Thomas his stage name was Mr.II having roots from the merican hip hop style the game started to take pace and every youngster started to cease the opportunity because of its new style and fashions it gained bad reputation as being a game for the gang with juvenile charecters. As we moved on the game of bongo flava had its time of prime where emerged soul artists and other hip hop icons like Professor Jay another member of parliament Hon. Joseph Haule for Mikumi and others like Mr. Paul, well by this time music industry was young with few hit recording labels like Bongo Records produced by one and only Majani
by his stage name , and Mj records produced by Master Jay,
the game of bongo flava owes them a huge respect and honor untill today for their great contribution. The game was in form of recording CD and radio cassetes which were by then a mean to transfer work and distribute the revenues were now visible to the artists like Juma nature, Mr.II himself and Feyrooz who started to make albums, however the revenues were not equivalent to their efforts of artistics work they put on, the piracy and other crimes started emerging where videos were only seen in few Televison stations famously channel 5, most of the CD were fused and sold with artists songs lists of songs amd videos be sold out without an artist knowledge, copied CD and redistribution of their works was major piracy in this era and so the revenues were down and left an artist with penniless. Artists emerged however the pace of theft of their works and difficulties and so does the recording labels such as KGT records emerged artists like Ally Kiba, Bob Junior, Hakeem Five and many others, with emergency of other influential artist who was much younger than others
Herry Samer AKA mr Blue the bongo flava game started to take new phase and new rythm on it, groups were formed and created competitions we had TMK Family before huge splits, and East coast team this time the game started to show meaning and rocking its way out of Tanzania to east of Africa. As the time changes the technology advancement new ways of distribution of music emerged now with introduction of internet and availability of access to it was a huge transition of music industry where one can just post his song online through a medium of media platforms and start a distribution people download and listern now we share in whatApp groups where single.download lead to freed access to 100 people, thats how fast we had grown in technolgy. Wow so what does this takes us it take us to whole new another level of theft and piracy and that means no revenues to an artist who now depends on music to work his way of living. We have our medium of digital music platforms like Mkito thanks to it artists started to get paid a lil by little more where 60 percent of sellings goes to an artist and remaing 40 goes to the company. However this media platform depend on money from an artist himself but form sponsors like cellphone companies and others, with this media platforms we have grown futher for us right now an artist who have huge social.media followers is a guru of music distribution taking ana example of C.E.O of the Wasafi diamond Plutnumz who is the leading social medai followers in east africa as reported in this link

have gained access to his distribution and sell of his songs online through youtube channel. And now his new media platform of Wasafi.com he gets paid by his own fans who buys his music exclusively on his media platforms it is a stage that many haven't even thought of having but still piracy is the key reason of the downfall of the revenues to an artist.

The available laws doesn't acccomodate the pace and the changes of the technology artist have been toiling to brand thief music and their companies to earn revenues thourgh their works with the view of policy of our current leading party CCM "hapa kazi tu" and the young generation whose hopes are in the hands of creativity is in danger of being deminished without any attribution to it. if we have to count in every family of five children one of them might be an artist not necessarily a bongo flava artist but an artist, with enactment of new laws that may regulate and embark procedures of how the revenues are paid to an artist and ways to protect and punish those who steak from their works will reduce the level of piracy, we need new copy right laws, new intellectual property law to curb all these for all artists in Tanzania. For all we know Tanzanians loves music from Tanzania and that is vivid in social media and fans who know.bongoflava in Tanzania, and seeing international artists coming to Tanzania just to have duet with tanzanian artists, artists from kenya, uganda, and Nigeria are coming to tanzania just to do that this is a career opportunity for the young generation and it suffice to say it is a source of employment which hire every individual who loves music. In music we have the artist, the writer, the composer, the producer, the media man, the music manager, the studio owner and the music distributor whole this pack is from music industry and they are employed all over tanzania now. It is a call to save the career of many and invite the investor's to invest in music in tanzania, companies like Sonny endorsed
Ally kiba for his music people behind Ally kiba are employed, his videographers, chareographers, back vocals, stage performers, his media men, his manager and the rest of the team are employed by the music industry if we form new regulations we will be able to invite more investors such as itunes, Warner Bross, Def jam, and many others this will ephatically change revenues to an artist and the government will ofcourse charge taxes to them for their ncome tax rates on them by pay as you earn system.
With new laws that open opportunity of the thief to steal from our artists will be ceased. Law has ability to compensate, punish, spread fear and increase order in our society in various aspect as we live and music is part of our lives now a job opportunity that is at peril, we have seen what happened to Bongo movies the same may happen in music industry.
